Stützerbach lies at an altitude of 590 - 828 m on the north-eastern slope of the Thuringian Forest in the middle of a magnificent low mountain range landscape. The village is known for Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, his glass tradition and the priest Sebastian Kneipp. In Stützerbach Kneipp cures were already carried out since 1932.
*Nearby there is a small shelter on the Kickelhahn, which became world-famous through a poem. It was here that Goethe's poem "Über allen Gipfeln in Ruh" ("At rest above all peaks") was written on the wall on September 6, 1780:
Über allen Gipfeln ist Ruh,
in allen Wipfeln spürest du
kaum einen Hauch;
die Vögelein schweigen im Walde.
Warte nur - balde
ruhest du auch.
Over all the hilltops
Is quiet now,
In all the treetops
Hearest thou
Hardly a breath;
The birds are asleep in the trees:
Wait, soon like these
Thou too shalt rest.
(Translation: Henry Wadsworth Longfellow)
